Switzel

Switzel

This mixed is based off of a recipe I found for a “Ginger Gold Rush”, with some modifications, and is named after the concoction that my mother made me drink growing up whenever I was sick.

Switzel/switchel is a folk remedy made from Water, Apple Cider Vinegar, Honey/Molasses, and Lemon Juice – and sometimes ginger. Its origins are somewhat dubious but has existed since at least the 17th century in various forms and is an extremely popular rehydration drink in the Eastern United States.

The Honey makes this a fabulous drink to have (either the cocktail or non-alcoholic name sake) when experiencing a sore throat. Heated up, this is a fantastic drink to enjoy in cold weather much like it’s cousin the Hot Toddy.
